Benfica vs Nacional Prediction & Match Preview

Benfica vs Nacional
Portugal Primeira Liga
Date: Monday, 25 January 2021
Kick-Off at 17.00 UK
Venue: Estadio da Luz, Lisbon.

Having won just one of the last three league matches, Benfica can ill afford another slip-up on Monday afternoon when they take on Nacional at Estadio da Luz. Luckily for their fans, neither Sporting Lisbon nor Porto have been flying high of late which is why As Aguias are still within a striking distance to the top of the Primeira Liga standings. They sit just four points shy of Sporting CP at the very top going into this 15th round Matchday against bottom-half strugglers.

Nacional have little to hope for ahead of the trip to Portuguese capital. They have been in a dreadful shape of late, losing four on the trot across competitions. Alvinegros conceded three goals in last week’s away loss at Vitoria Guimaraes. The defeat brought them on the brink of the relegation zone as the team led by Carlos Simoes are now just two points above the very foot of the standings.

Benfica vs Nacional Head-to-head

Nacional spent the previous season in the second division of Portuguese football. The last time they’ve played elite (two years ago), Alvinegros suffered one of the toughest losses in their history.

It came just against Benfica who celebrated an incredible 10-0 victory when these two sides last met each other in February 2019 at Estadio da Luz.

As Aguias have scored at least three goals in each of the last six meetings with Alvinegros.

Benfica vs Nacional Prediction

Benfica are enormous favourites here and anything but a comprehensive victory for them would be a massive upset on Monday. They have a fine home record of six wins and a defeat in seven league games at Estadio da Luz this season. They have also won 18 and drawn just 2 of 20 home clashes against Nacional, netting as many as 49 goals in the process.

The visitors are on a poor run of form with four subsequent defeats across competitions. Benfica are well worth backing to win by at least three goals difference at the odds of 2.35. We expect a strong start from the hosts who are 3.30 to have at least a two-goal lead at the half time. It is a massive-value pick against such an opposition and in these circumstances.
