Belarus vs San Marino
UEFA Nations League
Date: Saturday, 8 September 2018
Kick-Off at 17:00 UK / 18:00 CET
Venue: Stadyen Dinama, Minsk.
Belarus had a dreadful World Cup qualification campaign finishing at the rock-bottom of the Group S standings, even with Luxembourg ahead of them.
The board, however, decided to give the manager Igor Kriushenko a new opportunity to guide the team towards a new process which begins on Saturday afternoon when the White Wings host San Marino in their inaugural UEFA Nations League affair.
The two teams are in the weakest “League D” which opens up the way for them to try and challenge shot for a place at EURO 2020.
The winner of the division will automatically secure the appearance there, regardless of teams’ efforts in the actual qualifying campaign.
It makes the competition much more attractive for smaller countries and it should really help Kriushenko and his troops get close to their maiden major tournament.
This is why we expect the hosts to be highly motivated to get off to a string kick off to the campaign against the group underdogs (Moldova and Luxembourg also feature the same group in this competition).
Belarus vs San Marino: Head-to-head
This will be the first ever head to head match between the two teams.
Belarus vs San Marino: Prediction
San Marino are one of the weakest teams in the world and they even come into this campaign as massive underdogs in spite of playing a much easier opposition compared to the one they are used to in qualifications.
They conceded as many as 51 goals in ten WC qualifiers, scoring just two at the same time at the other end.
The gulf in quality between the two teams is just massive and we can’t see anything else but a comprehensive home victory as the outcome here.
Kriushenko will be without an important midfielder Pavel Savitskiy who was not called-up, but he still has enough quality in his ranks to ease past the likes of San Marino.
Striker Anton Saroka, who made a Lokeren move this summer, could shine and bag two or more goals on the occasion.
Belarus to win by three or more goals will be our main betting suggestion and you can go for it at 1.80 odds. The alternative pick will be Belarus’ clean sheet at 1.40.
