OFK Titograd vs B36 Torshavn
Europa League First qualifying round
Date: Thursday, 19 July 2018
Kick-Off at 19:15 UK / 20:15 CET
Venue: Stadion Pod Goricom (Podgorica).
Titograd are a much stronger team on paper, but they ended up with a goal-less draw in the first leg against Faroese outfit B36 Torshavn.
Everything is still left to play for when these two lock horns against at Podgorica on Thursday, but the hosts are heavy favorites to progress to the next round with an outright victory inside the 90 minutes.
The reasons are pretty clear, Titograd formerly known as Mladost Podgorica had a much greater success in the history of their Europa League appearances, compared to B36 who mainly failed to jump above their first hurdles.
B36 somehow managed to survive the preliminary round challenge which came in the likes of Gibraltar’s St. Joseph’s. The Faroese outfit advanced on penalties after both legs ended in the 1-1 scoreline. They thus deserved the first qualifying round tie with Montenegrin representative OFK Titograd, formerly known as Mladost Podgorica.
Torshavn lost both ties to Estonian Nomme Kalju last year, while Northern Irish Linfield stopped them in 2014. They are currently midway through the season in Meistaradeildin and things did not go quite as planned for Jakup a Borg whose men lost three on the bounce before beating the penultimate-placed AB in the previous round.
Titograd had a very interesting run in Europa League last year when they eased past Armenian Gandzasar 4-0 on aggregate before facing Austrian heavyweights Sturm Graz. The Montenegrin side shocked Sturm 0-1 on the road in the first leg, but they failed to capitalize on such success losing the reverse fixture 0-3 on the home court.
Nevertheless, they have to be huge favorites against an outfit which is on paper weaker than Gandzasar as we are tempted to try with the away win with high stakes at the odds of 1.57 here.
Titograd ended the last term of Montenegrin First League in third place, but we have to mention they took the cup title beating Igalo 2-0 in the final in May. Braver punters can take OFK Titograd to have the lead at the half time and win the match at the end at the odds of 2.20 odd.
