AZ will begin the pre-season on Saturday afternoon when they are set to take on Danish champions Midtjylland. We are very much looking forward to the match between two attacking-minded sides as the clash truly has prospects of producing a high-scoring thriller even though it only has a friendly character.
The Danes should be in a much better competitive form given the new Superligaen season is just around the corner, set to kick off next weekend. The match against the Cheeseheads will thus be the final check for the champions who are to begin the title defense quest with the home tie against AGF in seven days.
Unlike the Dutch outfit who will hit the court for the first tie in the pre-season here, Midtjylland have already played four friendlies with a semi-success in the process. They won two, drew one and lost one so far as the head coach Jess Thorup will clearly be eager to see his team returning on the winning ways against a strong opposition here.

Midtjylland are generally known for their attacking style which is why we are not surprised to see that each of their four friendlies brought both goals at both ends and three or more goals. Backing three or more goals here when they take on attacking-minded AZ should thus be a banker.
As for the outcome, the value is clearly with the visitors whose players should be in a much better physical condition coming into the game. Importantly for Thorup, the Wolves managed to keep the core of the squad which took the Superligaen silverware after a thunderous finish to the campaign.
They signed decent acquisitions as well bringing in an influential attacking midfielder from Holstein Kiel, Dominick Drexler. They also strengthened the back-line with Hacken’s Joel Andersson and Celtic’s Erik Sviatchenko, showing huge ambitions ahead of the Champions League as well.
