Austria vs Romania Prediction & Match Preview

Austria vs Romania
UEFA Nations League
Date: Monday, 7 September 2020
Kick-off at 19:45 UK/ 20:45 CET
Venue: Worthersee Stadion (Klagenfurt).

Austria made a positive start to their 2020 Nations League campaign and dominated Norway in the 2-1 home win on Friday. Still, they must improve in finishing off chances, in all truth the striking department look a bit thin. The midfield look solid though, this may not come to rescue every time.

Meantime, Romania were unlucky in their group opener against Northern Ireland to have ended up with a 1-1 draw. Mirel Radoi’s men were far better and the scoreline would have been completely different if not for a series of stunning saves by Bailey Peacock-Farrell. The Romanians had a dozen shots on target and had a 1-man advantage for about 50 minutes.

Das Team finished second in their group in 2018 edition after a draw and loss against Bosnia. They will be keen to avoid similar fate this time while coming against a team of similar stature this time.

The Tricolorii were unbeaten in their 2018 campaign, yet finished second and 2 points behind Serbia.

Head-to-head and Previous Meetings

The Austrians are unbeaten in the last three h2h meetings with the Tricolours, latest of which is a goal-less stalemate in friendly back in 2012.

The previous two was in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers, a 2-1 home win and 1-1 draw complete the list.

Austria vs Romania Prediction

Both teams produced brilliant displays in their group opener, but Romania just didn’t have the luck to win by a wide margin. And the visitors come to Klagenfurt after scoring in 9 consecutive away games before their last road trip ended in a 0-5 defeat at Spain.

Austria are generally known for their solid defensive line and wins by narrow margins, but this changed in recent years and their defense is breached in 4 of the last 5 games across all venues. This includes a goal scored by Latvia in the final group game of European qualifiers.

So, I am putting my money on goals here and will go with btts as my primary pick. And it is worth backing, with odds priced above 2.00.

The over 1.5 goals full-time could have been my safe pick if odds were slightly better. Anyhow, Romania’s last 5 away games saw over 2.5 goals, so do the last three home games for Austria. Thus, over 2.5 goals ft for small stakes is my second option.

Regarding full-time result, I do believe that Austria may edge this and we may see a similar score-line as against Norway. But this come with a high risk and therefore only back with very small stakes.

Betting Tips
