Argentina vs Guatemala
Date: Saturday, 8 September 2018
Kick-off at 4:00 UK/ 5:00 CET
Venue: Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum (Los Angeles).
These two teams will be meeting on foreign soil for this international fixture at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, USA.
Argentina will come into this one having been edged out from the world cup in a thrilling match against the world champions that ended with 7 goals (4-3). They have not played any friendly matchup since the world cup.
They remain undefeated in the last two international friendlies and will be coming into this one to scoop another win. Additionally, they have been able to keep a clean sheet in the two friendlies against Italy and Haiti.
In terms of the squad composition, Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Gonzalo Higuain, Angel di Maria, Ever Banega and Nicolas Otamendi are among the key players who will take up the task of taking on Guatemala.
Moreover, the young Argentina squad features some uncapped players and notable rising stars such as Paulo Dybala, Mauro Icardi and Giovani Lo Celso.
Guatemala’s two-year ban from international football was only lifted in May and, as with last month’s two friendlies against Cuba, the squad to face Argentina in this matchup.
The squad features a mix of players from before the ban and new faces. New York Red Bulls defender Allen Yanes, Xelaju midfielder Kevin Ruiz and Petapa’s Prins Lopez all come into the squad for the first time. However, Jose Alberto Marquez and Angel Cabrera will miss out this matchup.
Argentina vs Guatemala: Head-to-Head
- These two sides have only met twice.
- Argentina remains the domineering side, having won the two encounters while keeping a clean sheet.
- The last two games in 2013 and 2008 ended in 4-0 and 5-0 respectively, in favor of Argentina.
Argentina vs Guatemala: Prediction
Argentina will beat Guatemala in their friendly, the only question is how many their attacking players will manage to score as they look to impress in the absence of the likes of Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Angel di Maria and Gonzalo Higuain.
Guatemala are also looking to prove themselves after a two-year absence but they will hold no pretenses about this game. Argentina’s win is inevitable given the gulf in quality between the two. My take is that Messi will definitely not miss out on the scorers list. This match will end with over 2.5 goals.
Argentina vs Guatemala: Betting Tip
Half time over 1.5 goals @ 9/10 (1.90)
Messi to score at any time @ 4/5 (1.80).
