CFR Cluj vs Alashkert Analysis for Prediction

Cluj bagged a 2-0 win at Armenia and sit as strong favorites to win the reverse leg at home to progress to the play-off.

Both teams came here after losing their respective Champions League qualifying tie, but Alashkert’s form has been the most underwhelming.

They did manage to beat Macedonian side FK Sutjeska, but there was only 1 goal scored over the two leg. Having lost the Champions League fixture against Celtic on a pair of 3-0 score-line, the Armenian club’s problem in front of goal and defense is clearly evident (1 goal in 5 European matches, 8 conceded).

On the other hand, Cluj were knocked out on a 2-1 aggregate by Malmo, yet they showed more intent over the two legs of fixture against the Swedish giants.

With a stability at the back, the Romanians are poised to win this tie at their home turf. Meantime, Alashkert’s woes in the final third means we are in for a low scoring game, coupled with Cluj having the luxury to afford to keep the ball in their own half for majority of the game.

Armenian champions Alashkert will face Romanian side CFR Cluj in the battle for the place in the 4th round of Europa League qualifiers.

Alashkert started their continental journey in the Champions League qualifiers, however they faces a very hard challenge on the first step. They couldn’t cope with Celtic and lost two times by 3-0.

After moving to another continental cup, they faced Montenegrin champions Sutjeska and thanks to the 1-0 away victory, they booked the clash with CFR Cluj.

Varuzhan Sukiasyan’s side have already won a domestic trophy this season after beating Gandzasar in the Super Cup, while they opened a new domestic campaign with an away victory over Ararat.

CFR Cluj also got eliminated from the Champions League qualifiers as Malmo were better 2-1 on aggregate.

They didn’t put good displays in the opening of the season as the visitors booked the first victory in the latest round against Concordia Chiajna, after five matches without a win.

Giuseppe de Luca and the lads also managed to lift the Super Cup trophy after beating Universitatea Craiova.

Romanian champions need to improve in order to be competitive for winning the title again.
