Armenian champions Alashkert are going to take on Celtic in the first round of Champions League qualifiers. Home side managed to snatch the title in the exciting finish of the domestic championship and they were six points ahead of Banants.
Alashkert weren’t as convincing as in the previous seasons, but they earned the chance to participate in the qualifiers for the top continental competition. They have played three pre-season matches, mostly against Russian and Ukrainian sides, and booked three draws.
In those matches, the crowd was able to see just two goals in total. Last season, Alashkert have been performing fairly well at home ground.
Celtic are starting their Champions League campaign from Armenia after winning another title tin a row. They were clinical in front of the oppositions’ goal as they scored 73 times while their defending was the best in the league.
The Bhoys suffered just four defeats last season, and were putting very good performances when playing away from home.

Alashkert and Celtic will face each other for the first time in their history, and for the Scottish champions this will be the first time to face an Armenian team. Alashkert have been successful in their precious clash against the Scottish club as they eliminated St Johnstone from Europa League qualifiers in 2015.

Celtic are strong favourites in this tie, however they should be fully focused and learn from their mistakes in the past seasons. In their last campaign, Celtic suffered a humiliating 1-0 defeat against Gibraltarian champions Lincoln Red Imps, but eventually managed to secure their place in the next round thanks to a confident home display.
Although the visitors have been very productive last season, Celtic are usually playing pretty tight matches against the remote European sides. They are going to face a long trip and assuming that the hosts can hardly endanger their net, this one should remain under 2.5 margin.
