Ajax vs Anderlecht
Club Friendlies
Date: Friday, 13 July 2018
Kick-Off at 18:30 UK / 19:30 CET
Venue: Olympisch Stadion, Amsterdam.

Ajax and Anderlecht will take on each other in a very interesting friendly on Friday afternoon at Amsterdam.

Both teams have around two weeks before the official start to the season as the hosts prepare for the second qualifying round of the Champions League on July 25th, while Anderlecht have the First Division A opener scheduled just three days later.

Ajax finished the previous Eredivisie campaign runners-up to PSV and will have a very challenging route towards the Champions League group stage. The second place finish was regarded as a disappointment, but Erik ten Hag remained in charge.

Erik ten Hag’s destiny will highly depend on team’s European adventure this summer. In order to head into two UCL legs with Sturm Graz high on confidence, ten Hag will seek for a positive result here against Belgian heavyweights Anderlecht.

Ajax vs Anderlecht: Head-to-head

The two teams played each other four times in the past.

They met first in the group phase of the 2009/10 Europa League campaign when Anderlecht took a 1-3 victory in Amsterdam after the first match in Bruxelles ended in a 1-1 draw. Both sides went through to the knockout stage back then.

The draw put them together in the last 32 round of the same competition two years later when de Godenzonen advances in glorious fashion, 5-0 on aggregate.

Ajax vs Anderlecht: Prediction

Ajax drew 1-1 to FCSB six days ago as Erik ten Hag came out with a pretty strong line-up featuring Klaas Jan Huntelaar in the final third. The new acquisition Zakaria Labyad also made appearance on the left flank, while the former Southampton creator Dusan Tadic is still on vacation after he featured the World Cup with the Serbian national team.

The Belgians had somewhat easier rivals in their friendlies, but they failed to pick up the victory in any of last three, drawing with Heist, PAOK and KSV Roeselare. They entirely changes the squad in between two season and Hein Vanhaezebrouck will no doubts need some time to put the new arrivals in bed.

All in all, we see the value in backing Ajax to win at 1.90 given they have the same core of the team from the last season and given they showed better displays in recent friendlies.
