AEK Larnaca vs Dundalk
UEFA – Europa League
Date: Thursday, 2 August 2018
Kick-Off at 16:30 UK
Venue: George Karapatakis (Larnaca).
AEK Larnaca have held to Dundalk to a goalless draw at Oriel Park last week and they host the Irish rivals hoping to build on the performance and make their way to the next round in front of the home crowd, after a very solid finish of the last term and a strong pre-season campaign.
AEK have bagged wins over Wisła Płock and Enosis as well as draws against Lech Poznan and AEK Athens since early July and this should have Andoni Iraola’s men very motivated ahead of the clash too. They’ve been rock-solid at the back and conceded no goals along the way, which promises another tough challenge for Dundalk at AEK Arena – George Karapatakis.
Lilywhites have been in great shape beforehand and the goalless draw only ended a 15-game winning streak, where they regularly scored numbers of goals. They’ve returned to such a streak with a 2-0 win over Bohemians on Sunday but obviously struggle against tougher rivals and this will be worrying ahead of the tough trip to Cyprus as well.
AEK Larnaca vs Dundalk: Head-to-head
- This is the sides’ only first head-to-head encounter so far.
- AEK have held the rivals to a goalless draw in the first leg and now come as heavy favourites to make their way to the next round.
- AEK have been rock-solid at the back and could prove hard to score against once again.
AEK Larnaca vs Dundalk: Prediction
We’ll now back AEK to build on such records and put on another confident display in front of the home crowd, as we go for a Home win to Nil at 2.40 – which seems great value seeing their form at the back over the past couple of weeks.
We thus don’t feel we’ll see many goals either and we’ll now rather back Under 2.5 goals FT at 1.61, which shapes to be more of a banker bet as we don’t feel we’re in for a very one-sided contest with many goals on the day either.
