Wolves vs Shrewsbury
English FA Cup
Date: Tuesday, 5 February 2019
Kick-Off at 19:45 UK / 20:45 CET
Venue: Molineux Stadium (Wolverhampton).
Shrewsbury were just second away from a huge Premier League scalp ten days ago when they dropped a two-goal lead to only draw 2-2 at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
It was defender Matt Doherty whose last-gasp header salvaged a replay for the Wolves. Can the top flight side confirm their favourites tag in the reverse fixture at Molineux and advance into the fifth round of the competition?
Nuno Espirito Santo left his top scorer Raul Jimenez on the bench in the first leg at Montgomery Waters Meadow. It could have been a fatal mistake as the Wolves just failed to create with Adama Traore and Helder Costa leading the line.
The Shrews gained a confident two-goal cushion via two goals early in the second half through Greg Docherty and Luke Waterfall.
However, Raul Jimenez came on as a sub to pull one back for the Premier League outfit 15 minutes from time, while Matt Doherty levelled it at the death of the game.
Wolves vs Shrewsbury: Head-to-head
This will be sixth head to head encounter between the two teams.
As many as four of these six ended without a winner.
Shrews came on top when teams played each other in a pre-season friendly in July 2017 (2-0).
Wolves vs Shrewsbury: Prediction
Wolves come into this in sky-high spirits after a demolishing 3-0 victory over West Ham United in last week’s Premier League tie. The win moved the team up to 7th place in the league ladder.
Raul Jimenez confirmed his excellent spell of form with a brace on the evening. He will no doubts be a huge threat to poor defensive line of Shrewsbury’s if he gets to feature the match on Tuesday night.
The visitors conceded as many as four goals to League One strugglers Bradford City in their previous game in division. They are level on points with the likes of Oxford United and Bradford City right on the brink of the danger area.
The hosts should be in full control from the very start of the game and we expect them to claim a comprehensive victory by at least three goals difference here.
