Wolves vs Manchester United
English Premier League
Date: Monday, 19 August 2019
Kick-off at 20:00 UK / 21:00 CET
Venue: Molineux Stadium (Wolverhampton).
Wolves will take on Manchester United in their first home game of the season after a goal-less draw against Leicester in the opening round.
That was a positive result for the Wanderers considering Leicester had 70% of ball possession and created more chances, but just could not nick a winner. Wolves have eased through the Europa League Qualifers to date and will take on their Italian equivalents – Torino in the next round.
Man United kicked off the new campaign with an emphatic 4-0 win over Chelsea. Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s boys were absolutely clinical going forward and their star goalie David De Gea had a great game, keeping a clean sheet.
The Blues had more of the play in the first half, were close to equalise, but second goal from Martial made all the difference in the world and completely changed momentum of the game.
Wolves vs Manchester United: Head to Head
This will be their 85th meeting. Man United have won 39 times, Wolves 31 and 14 games have failed to produce a winner.
Ole Gunnar Solskjær has a bone to pick with Nuno Espirito Santo. The Portuguese tactician has led the Wolves to double 2-1 wins at the Molineux that essentially ended United’s hopes for Champions League football, and got the Red Devils eliminated from the FA Cup, two weeks prior.
- Both teams have scored in five out of last six meetings.
- We have seen four over 2.5 games in row at the Wolves’ ground.
Wolves vs Manchester United: Prediction
The Wanderers are an exciting team they tend to do well against the big clubs on their home soil. Specifically, they know how to handle Man United, we’ve seen that already, and their team is pretty much the same, so I expect solid performance from the hosts.
The Red Devils will be hoping for another three points on Monday. Every single thing went their way against Chelsea, but they should struggle to contain Wolves’s free flowing football. I do expect them to score at the Molineux, though, Lukaku-less attack is more mobile and dangerous and both Rashford and Martial got on the scoresheet in Chelsea rout.
Both teams to score will be my main bet for this game, and I have to back Wolves in DNB market because of their fine home form and recent H2H results.
