Wolves vs Everton
2018/19 English Premier League
Date: Saturday, 11th August 2018
Kick-off at 17:30 UK/ 18:30 CET
Venue: Molineux Stadium (Wolverhampton).
Wolves return to the English Premier League after six years and they start off with a tough home game against a new look Everton side.
Under Nuno Espírito Santo, Wolves dominated the Championship last season and raked in 99 points to clinch the title scoring 82 goals in the process.
They were strong in all departments and conceded just 39 goals and the other surprising factor is their top scorer Diogo Jota scored 17 goals, that’s just above 20% of the total scored by the team.
Moving on to the pre-season, the Wanderers haven’t been that impressive, yet managed to finish on a high with a 2-1 win against seasoned La Liga campaigners Villarreal.
From the transfer market, Wolves managed to rope in the pacey winger Adama Traore, the experienced Joao Moutinho and the young Mexican striker Raul Jimenez.
It is fair to say, that Nuno Santo’s side look pretty balanced on paper and could cause a few troubles of established teams.
Everton had a disastrous start last season, failed in the Europa League and were staring at relegation before Sam Allardyce took over and turnaround the fortunes of the side.
The Toffees eventually finished 8th, a decent position, considering that they won just 3 games until Christmas.
The 2018-19 season will saw the team from Goodison Park start a new era under Marco Silva.
The Portuguese managed made an exploding start with Watford last season and beat some top quality sides before fading away and eventually earning the sack. Thus, he has a point to prove on personal level as well as Everton.
Everton did some decent purchases this summer, the pick of which is £40 million signing of Richarlison, a player that rose to prominence under Marco Silva at Watford last season.
The left back Lucas Digne from Barcelona is the other high profile addition at the Goodison Park this summer.
Wolves vs Everton Head-to-head
Everton haven’t lost in their last 6 Premier League games against Wolves, however 4 of those are stalemates.
When they last met in 2011/12 season, teams drew blank at the Molineux Stadium after Everton snatched a 2-1 win at the Goodison Park.
Two of their last four h2h meetings at Wolverhampton are goal-less draws, with teams winning 1 each.
Wolves vs Everton Prediction
Teams start the new season with fresh hopes, but they have little momentum due to poor outings in the pre-season.
Everton the worst hit after finishing with defeats in 5 games and conceding 10 goals in the last three.
On the other hand, Wolves won their last warm up match against Villarreal 2-1, but the defeat against Derby and consecutive goal-less draws against Stoke, Betis and Bochum suggest there is still work to do.
Yet, neutrals must expect a fairly open game with both managers eager to make the best first impression.
Therefore, there is every chance for this to go down as a high scoring game.
