Wolfsburg vs Schalke: Prediction

Maximilian Arnold fired in a stoppage-time winner as they beat Borussia Mönchengladbach 2-1 on Sunday to send them flying up to the seventh place in the Bundesliga, as Die Wölfe are having greatest season in recent history.

Having danced around relegation spots last few years, Oliver Glasner seems to stabilize them. After fantastic start to the season, The Wolves hit a rough patch in November and still seems struggling to get out of it.

So far, they’ve collected 23 points from six wins, five draws and four defeats, all of them coming in the last six games. At Volkswagen Arena, they’re… Uninspiring. WDL record of 3-3-2 (9:9 GD). Dropped points against teams they should’ve beaten but also somehow managed to defeat a title challenger in the last game.

10-man Schalke held out a narrow 1-0 victory at home to Eintracht Frankfurt on Sunday, as Benito Raman scored in a fourth consecutive Bundesliga game, keeping them above Bayern Munich in the standings.

Under David Wagner, Schalke flourished, following last season’s disappointments. Currently occupying fourth place at Bundesliga table, The Miners are much more consistent side this year. And tougher to beat, as they’ve fallen only three times, after managing eight wins and four draws.

Only Leipzig are superior to Schalke when it comes to away fixtures. They boast the record of 4 wins, one draw and two defeats, scoring 14 and conceding 9 on their travels. Last one was a narrow 2-1 defeat at Leverkusen.

Ignacio Camacho and Niklas Klinger will miss out on Schalke clash due to long term injuries while Azzaoui and Tisserand are questionable. Mehmedi is back in training and most likely will be available to Glasner.

David Wagner’s side are having an ongoing defensive injury crisis: Salif Sane, Matija Nastasic and Benjamin Stambouli are already in the treatment room and are now joined by USA international Weston McKennie.

And that’s why i’m leaning toward Wolves in this game. Glasner usually prepares his side well for these “big” matches and they will be ready for injury ravaged Schalke. But I won’t be jumping into this without safety net. Draw No Bet, just to be sure.

Add to that Under 3 goals. Woflsburg’s home games are usually dire affairs when it comes to goals so I’m banking on that again.
