England – Championship

Kick-Off at 15:00 UK / 16:00 CET
Venue: The Hawthorns, West Bromwich.

Neither Darren Moore nor Gary Rowett can be satisfied with the start to the season they’ve had with their respective teams in the new Championship campaign.

They both hopes to have a one-year loan in the second tier of the English football after suffering the top flight relegation last term, but a serious turnaround in form is required for both West Brom and Stoke to live up to such ambitions.

The hosts seemed to have found that turnaround with super impressive back-to-back wins over Norwich City and QPR, but they returned to the old habits last weekend falling 1-0 to direct promotional rivals Middlesbrough away at Riverside.

The Baggies were the inferior side on the pitch and they deserved to concede the stoppage-time goal from Daniel Ayala.

Can they rebound right in the following fixture against the Potters?

West Brom vs Stoke City: Head-to-head

  • Stoke City have a positive head to head record in matches with the Baggies. They lead the H2H tie by 16 win ahead of 93rd encounter with WBA.
  • The Potters took four points from last term meetings with West Brom in the Premier League.
  • Four of last five head to head matches saw goals at both ends.

West Brom vs Stoke City: Prediction

Jay Rodriguez was the standout performer for the Baggies netting four goals in five appearances this season and he will no doubts be the main threat to Stoke’s goal on Saturday.

He skipped mid-week’s 2-1 win over lower-division Mansfield Town in the League Cup and he should be ready to shine once again in front of the home crowd where he packed a brace past QPR two weeks ago.

The Potters have been struggling to keep things tight at the back at the very start of the season, but Rowett will look for reasons for optimism in back-to-back clean sheet wins over Hull City (2-0 in the Championship) and Huddersfield Town (2-0 in the League Cup).

The park-the-bus strategy will, however, hardly work against the impressive attacking line of West Brom’s and we do find the value in backing the hosts to snatch the spoils at the odds of 2.00. Jay Rodriguez can be backed as the anytime goalscorer at 2.62.
