West Bromwich Albion are about to start their pre-season friendly matches series this Wednesday against the Czech champions Slavia Prague.
This will be the sixth match in the pre-season period for the Czechs who are looking to find their bets shape before the Champions League qualifiers later in the month.
West Bromwich Albion
The Baggies have enjoyed a decent campaign at the start of Premier League season when they were even genuine candidates for European competitions.
However, Tony Pulis’ men had a dismal finish to the season with seven losses and a draw in last eight Premier League matches.
The team lost their main striker Saido Berahino who signed for Stoke City in mid-season, but they signed the likes of Jay Rodriguez and Jake Livermore spending almost €24m on the moves.
Slavia earned €3m for selling Jiri Pavlenka to Werder Bremen. One of the key figures in winning the Czech Liga title, Antonin Barak, also left the team to sign for Udinese.
Jaroslav Silhavy will, however, have a lot of reason for optimism ahead of the Champions League ties if we are to judge by the team’s current form in pre-season friednlies.
The Czech champions look super solid at the back as they allowed no more than two goals in five matches against the likes of Viktoria Zizkov, Ceske Budejovice, Zilina, Celtic and Krasnodar.
