West Brom vs Middlesbrough
Date: Saturday, 2 February 2019
Kick-Off at 15:00 UK / 16:00 CET
Venue: The Hawthorns (West Bromwich).
A real buzz is expected in and around The Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon when two promotional hopefuls come across each other in the derby of the round.
West Bromwich Albion are still chasing the automatic promotion being just four points shy of Norwich City at second place. However, their form has seen plenty of ups and downs of late. The fact they won just one of past four league ties does not quite promise a pleasant afternoon for their fans when Boro come to visit West Bromwich.
Luckily for the hosts, their counterparts are not quite enjoying their best shape either. Middlesbrough are three points below the Baggies and they will come into this off the back of three draws and two wins in past five matches in all competitions.
Tony Pulis’ men disappointed badly last weekend when they only drew 1-1 at home to League Two side Newport County in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
West Brom vs Middlesbrough: Head-to-head
Interestingly, only one of past seven head to head games between these two outfits saw goals scored at both ends.
Middlesbrough celebrated a narrow 1-0 victory when teams met each other in late-August at Riverside.
WBA were the dominant force in H2H games at The Hawthorns where they won 23, drew 7 and lost 9 of 39 encounters with Boro.
West Brom vs Middlesbrough: Prediction
The Baggies will be forced to play the FA Cup replay too as they played a goalless draw away at Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend. The Baggies are still the most productive team in the division with 57 goals scored in 29 games in Championship, but Darren Moore kept the main focus on a stern defensive line of late.
WBA shipped only one goal in last four games in all competitions. Given his men are up against a stern defense of Boro’s here, the Under 2.5 goals FT looks to be the best of betting options for this derby.
