Werder Bremen will try and fix the impression after a disappointing 2-1 loss to 2. Bundesliga outfit St.Pauli this Friday when they are set to play Premier League members West Ham United at Osterwald-Stadion.
The hosts have had a rollercoaster campaign in the last term of Bundesliga, but Alexander Nouri began a renaissance period to move the team away from the bottom half of the standings in the second part of the season.
Die Werderaner lost their star man from the last season Serge Gnabry who signed for Bayern Munich in a €10m move, but they did bright several decent acquisitions at the same time.
The team began their pre-season schedule with a 1-2 win over Ajax, but losses to Wolverhampton Wanderers and St. Pauli affected the atmosphere in the dressing room.
The Hammers failed to break the deadlock in their first friendly against Sturm Graz’s reserve squad, but they fixed the impression with a 2-1 win over Championship members Fulham.
Slaven Bilic’s men will enter the new season with sky-high ambitions having signed the likes of Marko Arnautovic, Javier Hernandez, Joe Hart, Enner Valencia and Pablo Zabaleta.
None of the mentioned players featured the last friendly with Fulham and it will be interesting to see if the Croatian manager will use them against Bremen side.
