Werder Bremen vs Koln
Germany – Bundesliga
Date: Monday, 12 March 2018
Kick-Off at 19:30 UK
Venue: Weserstadion (Bremen).
Both Werder Bremen and Koln have been struggling badly in this term of Bundesliga and their H2H clash which is set to close the round on Monday evening at Weserstadion will have all ingredients of a relegation six-pointer at this stage. The hosts will come into it in higher spirits after grabbing themselves a massive survival lifeline by clinching four points from last two league outings.
The River Islanders have first defeated Hamburger SV 1-0 at home before holding European spots contenders Borussia Monchengladbach to a 22 draw away at BORUSSIA-PARK last weekend. Overall, Florian Kohfeldt has reasons to be thrilled with his team’s display at Weserstadion since Bremen have won five and drawn two of last seven league games there. Max Kruse has been the standout performer with five goals to his name so far in the season and he will no doubts be the main threat to Koln’s goal on Monday.
The visitors have significantly improved their performances under the new manager Stephan Ruthenbeck, but they will still hardly be able to catch up with the likes of Mainz, Wolfsburg and Werder Bremen in the safe zone. The Billy Goats have had a very tough schedule of late, but they’ve managed to clinch a shocking win away at RB Leipzig on their previous travel in the league (1-2 at Red Bull Arena). However, they could not back it up last time out when they fell 2-3 at home to in-form Stuttgart revealing plenty of holes at the back once again.
Werder Bremen have the chance to make it all square at 34 wins for each of the teams win a three-pointer here.
Four of last five H2H encounters saw no winner, including this term’s goalless draw at RheinEnergieStadion.
Koln have only managed to leave Weserstadion victorious on 7 occasions in 45 visits.
The hosts are the bookies’ favourites, but we just can’t underestimate Koln’s attacking displays on their recent travels in the league.
The Billy Goats have bagged two goals in four of last five Bundesliga matches on the road. Given that Bremen have been very tough to beat in their own backyard lately, backing goals at both ends & draw are our top two options for this one.
