Werder Bremen vs Ajax
Date: Saturday, 8th July 2017
Kick off at 15:00 UK/ 16:00 CET
Ajax are set to hit the court for the first time since losing Europa League final to Manchester United this weekend when they will tackle Werder Bremen in a friendly match at Lindenstadion.
The Germans have had a dreadful first part of the season in the last term of Bundesliga, but Alexander Nouri arrived as a saviour to cause the renaissance which secured a top half finish at the end.
The team suffered a huge blow to their ambitions ahead of the new campaign as they lost their star man Serge Gnabry who refused to sign a new contract and made a move to Bayern Munich.
Werder are still looking to sign a new striker until the start of the new season. Zhang Juning will be hoping to take advantage of the opportunity as he will likely start the match with Ajax on Saturday.
Ajax lost one of their key figures in the midfield, but unlike Werder, the Dutch side got a serious amount of money for Davy Klaasen.
The 24-year-old creator made almost a €30m move to Everton. The new manager Marcel Keizer will have a huge challenge to keep the rest of the stars, primarily Kasper Dolberg who has had a thrilling campaign last year.
It is also interesting to mention that Klaas Jan Huntelaar returned to Ajax as his contract with Schalke 04 expired.
Werder Bremen vs Ajax: Head to head
The two teams took on each other in the R32 of Europa League ten years ago when Werder Bremen went through with 4-3 on aggregate.
Ajax claimed a 3-2 win on their pre-season friendly four years ago at Meppen Stadion.
Werder Bremen vs Ajax: Prediction
We just can’t see how the clash between these two teams could turn out to be a low scoring one, even though it is the first game of the preparation period for both Ajax and Werder.
As for the outcome, we’ll go with the Dutch side to claim the win since Werder do not have a proper option in the final third at this stage of the year.
