Chelsea look to stretch their unbeaten run to eight in the league as they travel to Watford for Wednesday night’s Premier League encounter.
Watford after having an excellent run in the middle of the season have fallen from grace and their last weekend’s 2-1 win against Newcastle is the first win in six matches.
Chelsea are finally looking like a stabilized side under Guus Hiddink and coming on the back of an emphatic 1-0 derby win against Arsenal in the last weekend.
Watford vs Chelsea : Form Comparison
Watford had an excellent run towards the end of last year when they won four in a row. But starting from last week of December, they went on win-less for five games. Six games till then and one win to their game shows a poor 3 points from possible 18.
The Blues are unbeaten in seven matches with 3 wins and four draws to their name. Evidently, the turbulence the team suffered during the troublesome Mourinho era started to fade away and team is getting better and better in every match. The recent results are satisfactory and once would expect Chelsea to do better by starting to convert draws into wins.
Watford: Team News
Gilmartin, Doyley and Hoban remain sidelined due to respective injuries. While, Nathan Ake on-loan from Chelsea is ineligible to play against his parent club. Expect this Quique Sanchez Flores is unlikely to make any changes to his usual 4-4-2 set-up.
Watford: Predicted Line-up (4-4-2)
Gomes – Holebas, Britos, Cathcart, Paredes – Jurado, Watson, Capoue, Behrami – Deeney, Ighalo.
Chelsea: Team News
For the first time, Guus Hiddink has at hand an almost fully fit squad to choose from with Radamel Falcao being the only absentee due to injury from the side.
The new signing Pato may have to wait to make it into the team-sheet after Hiddink revealed he is far from being match-fit to feature in competitive matches.
Hazard who started in the 5-1 FA win over MK Dons could be welcomed back at the expense of Mikel. Despite that, changes are hardly expected from the team that grabbed a vital 1-0 win over Arsenal in their last Premier League outing.
Chelsea: Predicted Line-up (4-2-3-1)
Courtois – Azpilicueta, Terry, Zouma, Ivanovic – Matic, Fabregas – Willian, Hazard, Oscar – Costa.
Watford vs Chelsea : Head-to-Head
Chelsea are unbeaten in 7 league matches against Watford with 6 Wins to their name. The only draw came in their last meeting at Vicarage Road on 26th December, being the first match in charge for interim boss Guus Hiddink.
Watford’s last win against Chelsea in the English Premier League came by 1-0 score line in the 1998-99 season.
Watford vs Chelsea : Prediction
Their last week win against Newcastle could serve as a confidence booster for Watford and will be hopeful for another strong run like they did back in December as they have their fair share of positive displays against stronger sides.
But Chelsea are a team of different class altogether and the whole team will be lifted to snatch another important victory to sneak into European Qualification spot.
The Blues are stringing together some excellent performances lately and if they can improve on finishing their chances, they could open flood gates at Watford’s goal. My prediction for the day is Chelsea to win 2-0.
