Wales vs Slovakia
Date: Sunday, 24 March 2019
Kick-Off at 14:00 UK / 15:00 CET
Venue: Cardiff City Stadium (Cardiff).
Both Wales and Slovakia have been struggling for consistency in their latest games coming into a very important head to head fixture in the second round of EURO 2020 Qualifications on Sunday afternoon at Cardiff City Stadium.
The match has a huge importance as it could well determine the second-placed team in Group E if we assume Croatia will take the throne. The Dragons ended their UEFA Nations League campaign as runners-up to Denmark in Group 4 of League D. They saw off Republic of Ireland both home and away but also suffered two defeats to the Scandinavian outfit along the way.
Wales did not look good in their last two friendlies. They lost 1-0 to Albania in November last year. Ryan Giggs’ men were in action on Wednesday night when they hosted Trinidad & Tobago in a friendly in Wrexham. They struggled to break the deadlock all up until the 92nd-minute when Benjamin Woodburn scored the only goal of the game.
Wales vs Slovakia: Head-to-head
These two likes met each other at EURO 2016 in France when Wales celebrated a 2-1 victory.
Teams were drawn to the same EURO 2008 Qualification group and they offered two super interesting clashes back then.
Slovakia took a 1-5 victory on the Welsh soil, but the Dragons got the sweet revenge in a 2-5 win in the reverse fixture.
Wales vs Slovakia: Prediction
Slovakia finished their Nations League Group at the very foot of the standings behind the likes of Ukraine and Czech Republic. They generally struggled badly to pick up results on travels in the past couple of years.
Slovakians lost six and drew one of last seven outings on the road failing to score more than four goals in total in the process. Giggs will be able to count on his main star Gareth Bale here. Both teams will likely use a defensive-minded tactics in such important contest which is why we expect a tough game to be decided by one or even none goals.
