Wales vs Ireland
World Cup Qualifiers – Europe (Group D)
Date: Monday, 9th October 2017
Kick off at 19:45 UK/ 20:45 CET
Venue: Cardiff City Stadium.
The away win in Moldova has seen Wales stealing the second place from Republic of Ireland, but the Dragons could likely not see the playoffs even in case of two wins in last two matches of the campaign being the weakest second-placed team at the moment.
The last day of the term sees Chris Coleman’s side in the direct battle with neighbouring Republic of Ireland in a match where the draw means nothing for each of the sides.
Interestingly, the Dragons are yet to suffer a defeat, but they are still miles away from booking the spot at the World Cup in Russia.
The main reason lies in five straight draws after the initial victory over Moldova back in October last year.
To make things worse for Coleman, his star man Gareth Bale suffered yet another injury and is expected to be sidelined for at least a month.
Republic or Ireland
The Boys in Green were off to a strong kick off to the campaign, but a series of four consecutive qualifiers without a single victory saw them drop to the third position.
The most painful was clearly the last round’s home loss to Serbia which launched the Balkans’ country at the very top of the standings ahead of the final two fixtures of the campaign.
Wales vs Republic of Ireland: Head to head
The tradition speaks in the Irish favour as they have only lost a single of ten previous meetings with Wales.
Each of last two H2H encounters between the two sides ended with no goals which is the kind of scenario we would not be surprised to witness on Monday.
Wales vs Republic of Ireland: Prediction
The hosts are set at 17/20 favourites, but there is no point in backing them without the like of Gareth Bale.
Both managers will be super careful and even though the draw does not help any of the sides, we see it as the most realistic of the outcomes and we are going to back it at the odds of 14/5.
Wales vs Republic of Ireland: Bets
The main bet is Under 2.5 goals FT at the odds of 8/15 @ 888 Sport.
The second pick is draw at 14/5 @ 888 Sport.
