Villarreal vs Valencia
UEFA Europa League
Date: Thursday, 11 April 2019
Kick-Off at 20:00 UK / 21:00 CET
Venue: Estadio de la Ceramica (Villarreal).

The quarter-final draw decided to put two Spanish sides together as Villarreal and Valencia will battle each other for a place in the last four in this term of Europa League.

It should be an open tie even though the Bats were much better and much more consistent than their counterparts so far in the season in Spanish Primera Division.

Villarreal have huge worries about saving the elite class status domestically. They dropped down into the danger area after Sunday’s loss to Real Betis (2-1) at Estadio Benito Villamarin.

The team did show signs of enthusiastic form with the return of the old manager Javi Calleja, but the Spaniard still has to find way to repair obvious defensive holes.

The Yellow Submarine did not keep a clean sheet in last five matches across competitions. They shipped nine in last three La Liga ties against Celta Vigo, Barcelona and Real Betis.

Villarreal vs Valencia: Head-to-head

These two likes battled it out in Primera Division in late-January this year when Valencia claimed a demolishing 3-0 victory at Estadio de Mestalla.

It is interesting to note that none of past four head to head encounters saw goals scored at both ends.

Villarreal, however, have a much better head to head record in their own backyard where they won 11, drew 6 and lost only 5 of past 22 ties against the Bats.

Villarreal vs Valencia: Prediction

Valencia were among the most in-form teams in Spain before the weekend when they shockingly fell 2-0 away at relegation strugglers Rayo Vallecano. The Bats were previously unbeaten in 17 successive affairs across competitions, a streak which helped them join the battle for the top-four finish in La Liga.

The mentioned loss at Rayo somewhat halted Marcelino’s men push for the Champions League football, but Valencia still have time to overtake Getafe and Sevilla in remaining seven games of the season.

From the betting perspective, backing goals at both ends is a smart call at 1.90 odds in spite of the mentioned head to head record. Villarreal are just incapable of keeping things tight at the back, but we expect their superb attacking line to perform well and guide the Yellow Submarine to a narrow win in the first leg on the home patch.
