Vietnam vs Japan
AFC Asian Cup.
Date: Thursday, 24th January 2019.
Kick-Off at 13:00 UK/ 14:00 CET
Venue: Al Maktoum Stadium, Dubai.
In their fourth ever Asian Cup appearance Vietnam has made a major impact qualifying for the quarter finals. They will face the Blue Samurai on Thursday for a chance to qualify into the semis.
After qualifying as one of the best third-place teams in their group, Vietnam won the first knockout match against Yemen on penalties. They showed character in that game even after conceding a goal in the first half. A goal from Cong Phuong in the second half helped them level the scores and they held tight in defense taking the match into the shootout.
Golden Dragons started the tournament with defeats against Iraq and Iran. But the crucial win over Yemen helped them be the best third-placed team and get into the knockout rounds. Head Coach Park Hang-seo will know that Japan will come out all guns blazing against them. He will have to make his team prepared for a tough night at the Emirates.
Apart from the match against Yemen, his team conceded goals and needs to repeat that particular performance if they wish to keep Japan out of the score board.
Japan has completed a clean sweep in their matches so far in this tournament. Being the favorites have not brought them under pressure in any of their matches till now. After conceding 2 goals against Turkmenistan in their group opener, they managed to get three clean sheets on the trot in the following games.
A goal from Tomiyasu at the 20th minute was enough for the Blue Samurai to defeat Saudi Arabia in the round of 16. The 4-time champions will be hoping for yet another title this year and they look good enough for me.

Vietnam vs Japan: Prediction
Japan is hard as a rock at the back, which we saw in their last 2 matches in the Cup. The defense led by Maya Yoshida of Southampton has been world class all through the tournament. The Blue Samurai may repeat that record in this match also. Thus a bet can be placed on the Dragons to keep a clean sheet with 1.66 odds.
In 2 of the Cup games Japan played, the score was over 2.5 goals. With the Vietnamese conceding 2 or more goals in 2 of their cup games as well, there will be gals in this upcoming game for sure. So we can bet on a score with over 2.5 goals with 2.00 odds.
