VVV-Venlo vs PSV Eindhoven: Prediction
Venlo have recently appointed Hans de Koning as their new head coach but the problems remained as Vitesse Arnhem easily pushed them aside in a convincing 3-0 victory.
Venlose Trots don’t have the best of times in this year’s edition of Eredivisie. Following a decent start to the season, they went on months long winless run, from whom they still can’t totally get over with; few flashes here and there, a win or two and then back to the sour embrace of defeats.
About 80% of their points total, The Good Old have won at De Koel, with four wins from nine matches; no draws, not a single one for the entirety of the season. And Venlo almost exclusively win against teams flirting with relegation, Emmen, Twente, RKC, to name a few…
Two games, two wins for the new guy in PSV’s dugout, another former player in Ernest Faber, who shook the team and went on to close a disappointing year with a 4-1 trashing of weakly PEC Zwolle.
Boeren leapfrogged Willem II in the last round, coming back to 3rd spot on league table, seven steps behind 2nd placed AZ and huge ten off league leaders and their greatest rivals, Ajax.
I’m not even sure there are generations of fans across the Netherlands that remember PSV being this bad away from Philips Stadion before the winter break. Three wins and three draws from nine games might be respectable for any other team but for one of PSV’s standings is an atrocity.
The Red & Whites can’t allow themselves to drop points versus the likes of Sparta or Emmen…
Bram Verbong and Jerold Promes are out for the hosts, with Lee Cattermole being questionable for this fixture while guests from Eindhoven will be without the services of Sam Lammers, Yannick Van Osch and their brightest star, Donyell Malen.
Despite their troubles, Boeren are still quality-wise miles away from VVV and their excursion to Venlo will be a fruitful one. I’m willing to back them to win this one with one hand tied up behind back. Yes, that means Asian Handicap.
If you’re after something tad safer, you can’t go wrong with goals Venlo’s defense has been absolutely dreadful this year (44 conceded in 18 games) and PSV are more than capable of putting few past them.
