Venezuela vs Peru
Copa America 2019 (Group A)
Date: Saturday, 15 June 2019
Kick-off at 20:00 UK/ 21:00 CET
Venue: Arena do Grêmio (Porto Alegre).
Peru managed to sneak their way into the World Cup from the CONMEBOL after intense competition. They finished fifth after leaving two-time Copa America defending champions in the dust. Their campaign in Russia might have been a bust, but they did provide some thrills against the likes of France and Denmark.
Now, they are back to torment their neighbors with some spirited play once again. The team will be targeting nothing but a win, and since Brazil is taking on Bolivia in the opening match of Copa America 2019. Peru could ensure at least a second place after Round 1, with a win in this tie.
Their last match though did not help their cause. Even with Colombia away from home, Peru could not capitalize. They had to endure a 0-3 loss which has definitely put a wet blanket over the fire.
Venezuela finished at the bottom of the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualification table and could post just 12 points from their 18 games. All they could manage during the while was two wins.
But unlike their counterparts, their current confidence level is high, due to the win they recorded over the USA in the just-concluded friendly international. Three goals, one after the other in the first half itself took any hope the US had for a comeback.
The team will be trying to build on from this win, and do some damage in the Group A of the competition.

Venezuela vs Peru Prediction
Peru has the confidence of performing well against Venezuela in recent encounters, and the last they lost against this opposition in a competitive tie was back in 2013. Moreover, the former is motivated due to the fact that they qualified to the World Cup, and that too after finishing above Chile, while Venezuela was placed dead-last after the 18-round competition came to an end.
In addition, Venezuela was winless in 35 of their last 44 games, whereas Peru went unbeaten in 30 of their last 40 fixtures, and this included some of the best teams in the world, of the likes of Chile, Germany, Netherlands, France, Croatia, etc.
Also take into account the fact that Peru has recorded 16 of the last 22 h2h wins, and has recorded a single win away from home, in their h2h history spanning back to 1965.
As things stand, expect Peru to come out on top after a tough match. But regarding goals, the presence of Josef Martinez who has been tearing it up in the MLS will surely boost the chance of Venezuela. Moreover, six of the last eight h2h ties had goals from both teams. Also, considering the importance of the fixture, count on both squads to chip in with at least a goal.
