Vardar vs Copenhagen
Champions League Third qualifying round
Date: Tuesday, 25th June 2017
Kick-off at 19:00 UK/ 20:00 CET
Venue: Philip II Arena (Skopje).
Another Scandinavian opponent waits in Vardar’s way as they look for their first play-off appearance in the Champions League qualifiers.
FK Vardar produced an inspired performance to see off Swedish club Malmo in the second round of qualifiers. They used the home advantage to full effect and bagged a 3-1 win with scores leveled at 1-1 from the first leg.
The Macedonians lost their first double legged qualifying tie in each of the last four seasons. Also, they are yet to progress beyond the third round in Champions League qualifiers.
FC Copenhagen are looking for back-to-back Champions League group stage appearance. They started this season’s campaign in style by beating Slovakian outfit Zilna 3-1 away from home. But they were given a scare when the Slovaks cut down the deficit with a 2-1 win back in Copenhagen.
However, Copenhagen are short of their usual best. Their four competitive matches this season saw 2 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat. There are some positives as they are coming on the back of a 3-0 win away at Randers, a team that are a constant nemesis in previous seasons.
Vardar vs Copenhagen: Head-to-head
This is the first meeting between Vardar and Copenhagen in a UEFA competition.
Vardar vs Copenhagen: Prediction
Vardar must expect a tough test as Copenhagen are one of the seasoned campaigners at this competitions. The first leg result will be key as they are hardly expected to trouble the Danes in both legs of this tie.
Copenhagen are missing two key players here – the midfield maestro Rasmus Falk and defensive stalwart Peter Ankersen. So, it is better to back the visitors to grab only a narrow win in Macedonia.
