Man United boss Louis van Gaal is happy with his side’s performance on Monday after they thrilled Shrewsbury Town 3-0 in FA Cup fifth round to book a spot in the quarter finals of the competition.
Chris Smalling put United upfront before Juan Mata’s free-kick made it two to seal half-time and Jesse Lingard added another to secure victory.
Man United now face West Ham United at the Old Trafford on March 11 and manager Van Gaal cannot hide how delighted he is.
“Everybody will say it’s against Shrewsbury Town and Manchester United have to win. But we have seen very difficult results in the FA Cup.
“The top team doesn’t always win so I think we have done fantastic, and I have congratulated my players because I was very pleased.”
United have Europa League second leg tie ahead of them against FC Mitjylland on Thursday 25 after falling to a 2-1 lost in the first leg in Denmark and Van Gaal admits they face a difficult game.
“Now we have to beat Midtjylland, it will not be easy because they are very well organised and we saw that in the game in Denmark.
“Everything is possible, and we are still in three competitions so we have to fight for every chance.”
Man United are languishing fifth position on the Premier League table with 41 points, six points short of fourth place City rival Man City and will come up against third place club Arsenal on Sunday- who are on equal 51 points with second position club Tottenham Hotspur.
