Valencia vs Las Palmas
2017/18 Spanish LaLiga
Date: Friday, 18th August 2017
Kick off at 21:15 UK/ 22:15 CET
Venue: Estadio de Mestalla.
Valencia and Las Palmas will play each other in the more appealing of two opening fixtures of the new Primera Division season this Friday at Estadio de Mestalla.
Both sides have had a dismal campaign in the last term and they will clearly want to see improvements under new managers in the upcoming campaign.
Marcelino can generally be satisfied with the job the Bats did in the summer transfer window as they signed permanent deals with Simone Zaza and Fabian Orellana (both men enjoyed a decent run of form in the second part of the season).
The Bats clinched three straight victories in pre-season friendlies against the likes of Cincinnati, AFC Bournemouth and Werder Bremen.
It will, however, be interesting to see how the new manager will fix the holes in the defensive lines as the fans could have rarely seen the Bats keeping their net untouched at Mestalla in the last season.
Las Palmas lost the likes of Roque Mesa, Marko Livaja, Javi Varas and Jese (all first team members) this summer, and the only name from the arrivals list worth mentioning is the one of Sevilla’s Vitolo who came on loan after he made the Atletico Madrid move.
The Canaries were one of the weakest defensive sides in the league last year, but the pre-season form is quite encouraging for the new manager Manolo Marquez as the team kept clean sheets in consecutive wins over Tenerife, Cadiz and Malaga.
Valencia vs Las Palmas: Head to head
Valencia lead the tie by two wins ahead of their 11th meeting with Las Palmas.
We have to mention that five of the last six H2H encounters between the two sides saw the option of both teams netting including two high-scoring thrillers from the last term of Primera Division.
Valencia vs Las Palmas: Prediction
This has to be an open game since both teams favour attacking-minded football and have certain weaknesses at the back.
