Valencia vs Barcelona: Preview and Predictions

Valencia vs Barcelona
Spain – Copa del Rey
Date: Thursday, 8 February 2018
Kick-Off at 20:30 UK
Venue: Estadio de Mestalla (Valencia).

Valencia managed to stay in the semifinal tie ahead of the rematch at their Mestalla, but Barcelona still remain massive favourites to make it to the final. The Catalans will bring the minimal one-goal cushion thanks to the second-half goal from Luis Suarez seven days ago at Camp Nou.

Coming back in the rematch after failing to score in the first leg away from home is a tough task against any opposition, not to mention Barcelona who are by far Spain’s top side in this season. Moreover, Marcelino’s men will come into the game off the back of five consecutive losses in all competitions. Truth be told, the Bats did play the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid along the way, but defeats to Las Palmas and Deportivo Alaves can hardly be justified.

Marcelino will be hoping to build on fine displays his men have generally presented at Mestalla (all up until the 1-4 catastrophe against Madrid in the previous home match in La Liga) so far in the season. Valencia will also be encouraged after a slower display from Barcelona in their Saturday’s league tie with Catalan rivals Espanyol (1-1 draw), but Valverde’s main star Lionel Messi only came on as a substitute at the weekend which only confirms the team’s high ambitions for the Copa del Rey title defense.

Valencia vs Barcelona: Head-to-head

Overall, Barcelona have won 29 and lost 12 of 56 meetings with Valencia.

Nonetheless, Barca have won only on one of last four visits to Mestalla (three draws).

Before last week’s first leg of their Copa del Rey semifinal, five straight H2H encounters between these two sides have seen the BTTS pick “come in”.

Valencia vs Barcelona: Prediction

Even though Barcelona have the best attacking line in Spain, Messi, Suarez & company were limited to only a single goal in each of last two games.

Since three of last four H2H meetings at Mestalla ended in a draw, we do see the value in backing this outcome at the odds of 4.33.

Valencia’s last two matches against Barcelona and Atletico Madrid have seen only two goals in total which is why we will also go with the Under 3.5 goals FT bet at decent-value 1.66 odds.
