FC Utrecht vs Feyenoord: Prediction
Van den Brom’s pupils brought home all the spoils in mid-week KNVB Cup clash with Groningen thanks to Issah Abass, which makes their third win in a row across all competitions.
Utrecht discovered their groove away from home following a three-game losing streak and managed two back-to-back wins which allowed them to leapfrog Feyenoord and wait for their clash from 5th place.
At home ground, Utrecht has been pretty much hit or miss. Five wins, three losses (18:8); two out of them coming last two times van den Brom’s men played in front of their own crowd. AZ one was understandable but losing to RKC is just shame-worthy.
Feyenoord were the final side to book their place in the third round of the KNVB Cup after a hard-earned victory at Cambuur.
This win extended their unbeaten run in domestic competitions to seven games. Six of those were in Eredivisie, including last match in which they’ve demolished PSV and ultimately cost van Bommel his job.
Van den Brom have all his soldiers available for this clash while Feyenoord’ll be weaker for usual suspects: Rick Karsdorp, Edgar Ie, Sven van Beek and Ridgeciano Haps while young Burger is suspended.
On their travels, Dick Advocaat’s men are quite unspectacular. In decline, should we compare it to last season, as they’ve only managed two wins and four draws from eight games, scoring eleven goals and allowing thirteen past Kenneth Vermeer. Though The Pride of South hasn’t lost last two games on the road, they haven’t won them either, getting a point from Groningen and Vitesse.
I don’t think we’ll see goals galore in this match. Advocaat’s team has been quite underwhelming away from De Kuip and with Utrecht recent home record, as well taking their h2h history into consideration, Under 3.5 goals seems sensible.
Also, taking into account the fact that our hosts have been sluggish in front of their own fans and Advocaat’s “playing not to lose” away from Rotterdam, I’d try Draw No Bet Feyenoord.
