CONCACAF 2018 World Qualifiers – 5th Round.
Date: Saturday, 12th November 2016.
Kick-off at 00:45 UK,
Venue: Mapfre Stadium, Columbus, Ohio.
United States men’s national soccer team will take on the biggest zonal rivals Mexico in their opening fixture in the round 5 of 2018 CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers.
The Jurgen Klinsmann tutored side had a difficult start in the fourth round in an easy group which included Trinidad and Tobago, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Guatemala. They kicked-off with a 6-1 win over St. Vincent, but suffered a shock defeat to Guatemala before being held to a goal-less draw by T&T in the subsequent fixture. However, three wins from the next three scoring 18 goals to no reply guaranteed their place in the fifth qualifying round as group winners.
Mexico on the other hand, finished top of their group with an unbeaten record from their 6 matches in the round four. They won 5 and drawn 1, scoring a total of 13 goals against 1 conceded. Their group involves Honduras, Canada and El Salvador. Honduras qualified to the fifth round as group runner up while Canada and El Salvador were eliminated after finishing third and fourth in the group.

USA’s recent performances at the international stage gives their fans plenty of hopes coming into the matchday 1 of the 5th round against one of the strongest rivals in the zone. Mexico certainly have some quality players, however we are not convinced by their current form.
And the hosts could definitely take some extra confidence from the fact that they haven’t lost to Mexico in the last 7 qualifying matches at home. This really put us in a strong position to tip the pendulum in the host nation’s side.
