Union Berlin vs Mainz
Germany – 1. Bundesliga
Date: Wednesday, 27 May 2020
Kick-off at 19:30 UK/ 20:30 CET
Venue: Stadion An der Alten Försterei (Berlin).
The Carnival Club have been one of the major teams in the Bundesliga, but at the moment, they are placed just above the relegation line. However, they are pitted against the newly-promoted Iron Ones, and have a good h2h record against them as well. As such, Mainz are expected to triumph this Wednesday – without a clean sheet though.

- The Carnival Club have not once failed to score goals against this opponent.
- Three of the former four wins had gone to the Carnival Club as well.
- Two of the former three clashes at this stadium had goals from both teams.
- The last time these two locked horns, the Iron Ones won 2-3 on the road.
- Since 2002, only once have the Iron Ones won against this opponent.
Union Berlin vs Mainz Prediction
The Iron Ones lost 4-0 on the road the last match-day, against Hertha Berlin. It deserves to be mentioned that while the first half had remained goalless, the hosts scored all four goals after the break. The Iron Ones did try to make a comeback, with them employing five substitutions in 15 minutes – but it ultimately was useless.
Meanwhile, the Carnival Club lost 0-5 at home the prior game week, against Leipzig. All through the ninety minutes the guests reigned supreme on the pitch, and allowed not a single chance for the home team to make a comeback. And to add insult to injury, Timo Werner scored a hat-trick as well.
However, this coming match-day, the Iron Ones are the underdogs. They are new into this competition, and as such, lack the experience to tackle the tougher obstacles in this top flight. On top of that, they are also taking on a desperate Carnival Club, who are trying their best to avoid relegation.
Note that over the years, the Iron Ones have not performed well against this opponent in h2h clashes, and to top it all off, they are also on a four-game losing run, while having conceded two or more goals in the past five fixtures.
As such, expect Mainz to avoid a loss at the very least this Wednesday. However, do understand that they have conceded the most number of goals so far in the contest, and that the Iron Ones have found the back of the net in all h2h encounters since 2003. Likely, we can count on goals to come from both teams this game week.
