Union Berlin vs Bayern Munich: Match Preview
Unlucky DFB Pokal exit and defeat by Bayer Leverkusen was apparently still fresh in minds of Union’s players as the Iron Ones struggled to get a foothold in the match and ended up suffering a minor setback in the Bundesliga after losing 1-3 at the Schwarzwald-Stadion against Freiburg.
That was 13th defeat of the season for Urs Fisher and his men, who’re still in the warm embrace of the midtable as they occupy 11th place on Bundesliga table; they still haven’t mathematically secured their survival but having eight points more than first team below the line, the Iron Ones are safe distance away from relegation scrap.
Following their strong showings and lovely winning streak at An der Alten Försterei, Fisher’s pupils have been having mixed results in their home ground of late but they’re still performing above expectations for a newly promoted side as they easily dispatched Augsburg, pushed Leverkusen all the way through (but ultimately got beaten) and most recently drew 2-2 with Wolfsburg after being 2-0 up.
The German champions enjoyed much more of the ball during the first half and miserably failed to create any openings worthy of their name but the job was done after the restart when they upped the pressure, finally breaking the deadlock and stubborn Augsburg was beaten 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.
Even without couple of key players on the pitch, the Bavarians pulled through and Hansi Flick got his twelfth league victory at Bayern’s helm, continuing their reign of terror that last since December 14th which marked a start of FCB’s current eleven-games unbeaten streak during which they’ve won ten games, with only RB Leipzig surviving Bavarian clutches and living to tell the tale.
Having struggled on the road under Niko Kovac and dropping points on regular basis, Bayern is back in style with Flick at the wheel as they boast impressive (but for them, expected) five-game winning run during travels across Germany, all while averaging superb 4.5 goals per game.
Marvin Friedrich saw red during Union’s excursion in Freiburg so he’s due to miss out on Bayern, as well as Manuel Schmiedebach, Joshua Mees, Lennard Maloney, Suleiman Abdullahi, Laurenz Dehl and Akaki Gogia who are all out injured.
Bayern don’t have as much issues but they’ll still be without the services of Robert Lewandowski and Joshua Zirkzee, with Kingsley Coman, Ivan Perisic and Niklas Süle being questionable as they aren’t fit enough and might be slowly reintroduced back into squad.
Union Berlin vs Bayern Munich: Head-to-head (h2h)

Union Berlin vs Bayern Munich: Prediction
With their Champions league rematch on the horizon, the Bavarians won’t play around and will be looking to make a quick work of Union and being overwhelmingly more powerful, with everything most likely done during the opening act.
And there will be goals. I’ve already mentioned Bayern’s average in this aspect, but the Iron Ones aren’t exactly goal-shy side, especially when they are in front of their own fans. During their two latest outing in Berlin, the number of goals was five vs Leverkusen and four against Wolfsburg. Surely, Bayern’s arrival will guarantee us at least as much…
