The Iron Ones awaits Augsburg at An der Alten Forsterei hoping for an end to their winless run against fellow strugglers in Saturday’s Bundesliga clash.
Union Berlin vs Augsburg: Match Preview
Union had the lead and successfully held off league leaders for a good part of the Saturday’s match but Timo Werner opened the path and with two goals led the way for Leipzig’s comeback.
That made for a fourth game without a win and third consecutive defeat for Bundesliga newbie as Urs Fischer’s men slipped to 12th, three points off Werder, who’s first below the line.
Points wise, Die Eisernen are among the better home teams of the league, with five wins and four losses to their name. After a bad start of the season, they went on an unbeaten run at home ground that lasted for nearly two months before laying down their weapons before Hoffenheim.
Augsburg had visiting fans in disbelief after shocking 2-0 and 3-1 leads v Dortmund at one hour’s mark but then Haaland happened, coming off the bench to score a 20-minute hat-trick and bring guests a huge win in a pulsating encounter at the WWK-Arena.
Fuggerstädter has had a less than ideal start to the season, picking up just one win in ten rounds but in the first days of November they went haywire, managing spectacular five wins from next six games until Leipzig brought them crashing down to Earth in their last game of 2019.
On their travels, Martin Schmidt’s men are doing decent if unspectacular work, getting nine points from nine games but before Leipzig defeat Augsburg were unbeaten on the road for two whole months.
Joshua Mees, Manuel Schmiedebach, Laurenz Dehl and Akaki Gogia most likely won’t feature for Berlin side in a clash v Augsburg while Lennard Maloney, Suleiman Abdullahi, Keven Schlotterbeck and Grischa Prömel will go down the wire.
As for our guests, their list of unavailable players is similarly long: Raphael Framberger, Sergio Córdova, Simon Asta and Iago are sure absentees for the next game while it will be tight for Maurice Malone, Reece Oxford and Alfred Finnbogason.

Union Berlin vs Augsburg: Prediction
Having looked into their previous encounters and adding Union’s home games in the mix, one might say Under 3 goals is a safe bet. Die Eisernen went over just twice in a season so far (versus Leipzig and Dortmund) so I think it’s worth a shot.
Watching these two plays one another is as exciting as watching the paint dry. One exciting moment in these clashes were Augsburg’s 90th minute winner in one game that didn’t end in stalemate. Banking on the fact that it was one and done and they’ll continue with the usual service, I’d put a few bucks on another drab affair and a draw. Most likely goalless.
