Udinese vs Sampdoria
2016/17 Italian Serie A.
Date: Sunday, 21 May 2017
Kick-Off: 14:00 UK,
Venue: Dacia Arena (Udine).
Udinese will look to take advantage of Sampdoria’s bad away form as they welcome the Blucerchiati to the Dacia Arena on Sunday afternoon.
Sampdoria’s last away game ended as a 7-3 loss at the Stadio Olimpico against Lazio. It was arguably one of the most entertaining games of the season – that is, unless if one is a Sampdoria supporter. The Genoa-based side seem to be again in another bad patch, as has been the norm for them during what has been nothing short of a roller-coaster season.
The Blucerchiati arrive having picked up just two point out of their last five fixtures. Still, despite that bad run of form, they are still in the top half of the table. However, Udinese are currently unbeaten in their last five at this ground. That includes an impressive 1-1 draw against Juventus, making the Zebrette the first side to hold the Bianconeri to a stalemate this season.
Whilst Sampdoria’s last away fixture ended in a ten goal thriller, that isn’t as likely to happen here. Udinese have netted more than two goals in less than 20 per cent of their home games, whilst Sampdoria’s three goals against Lazio was an anomaly rather than the norm. They’ve scored more than one goal in less than 20 per cent of their road fixtures.
Udinese, however are coming into this game having lost 1-0 to Crotone last weekend. Still, given the fact that the Squali have suddenly sprung to life, that loss really didn’t do much damage for the Zebrette, who, unlike Crotone, are already guaranteed safety for next term.
As things are, Sampdoria are three points ahead of Udinese in the league standings. That being said, Udinese have scored in each of their last 11 home games against Sampdoria and are unbeaten at home dating back to a surprise 2-1 loss to Sassuolo on February 19th.

Udinese vs Sampdoria: Prediction
Udinese could make it six without defeat at home for the first time in four years. Meanwhile, Sampdoria seem to be in another rut, but are also safe. At this point, both teams are looking to finish out the season, and the only objective – if any – is to try to end up in the top half of the table. Udinese, however, may have more motivation as they are playing at home and will want to put on a good show in front of their home fans.
