Udinese vs Roma
2017/18 Italian Serie A.
Date: Saturday, 17th February 2018
Kick-Off: 14:00 UK/ 15:00 CET
Venue: Dacia Arena (Udine).
After a bad patch, Roma finally ended their frustrating spell by beating Benevento 5-2 last round. That means that Eusebio Di Francesco’s men have won two games in a row, but they have gone seven matches without a win and have allowed both Juventus and Napoli to surge ahead, so a top two finish is well out of their reach. However, Lazio have slipped up in recent weeks and so have Inter, so Roma certainly could at least secure a top four finish.
Still, they’re not out of the woods just yet. Inter and Lazio are battling for a top four spot, as well and things are pretty tight. Just one point divide the three sides and Roma are taking on an Udinese side who have really been resurgent since Massimo Oddo took over. However, the Zebrette have been a bit wobbly as of late. After a hot streak that saw them beat Inter and end the Nerazzurri’s unbeaten run, they have only won one of their last six. Overall, their form has dipped as of late and their hopes of making a late Europa League push are fading fast.
Roma have seemed to finally have found their footing lately and it’s hard to see the hosts now getting back closer to the top seven this weekend at the visitors’ expense. The Lupi are truly looking good to make it a third straight win here as their only away loss this season was against Juventus, who have won the last six straight Scudetti. Overall, Roma have won more than half of their away fixtures this term and have been quite dominant against teams who aren’t in the top five.
Although Udinese did beat Inter at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, that was when they were on that kick recently, and since then, things have cooled off spectacularly for the Zebrette, who come into this game having lost to Torino last weekend. They’ll be keen on trying to get back on track here and frustrating Roma, who also have a Champions League tie to look ahead to – and whilst Roma aren’t expected to win the Champions League, they don’t have the toughest opponent, with Ukrainian outfit Shakhtar being a more reasonable foe thanks to the Giallorossi topping a group that contained Chelsea and Atletico Madrid. Could that have any influence on Di Francesco’s squad selection for this match?

Udinese vs Roma: Prediction
Roma are undefeated in 17 of their last 18 away games, with their only loss being to Juventus. However, the hosts could nick a goal, regardless and cause a spot of trouble for the visitors. It looks easy to fully back Roma for the outright win, but Udinese aren’t going to be pushovers, especially after losing to Torino last weekend. This could be a tough one for the visitors, who are also looking ahead to their upcoming Champions League match midweek as well, so the Zebrette just may be able to end their hoodoo to nick a potential point here.
