Tunisia vs Algeria
International Friendlies
Date: Tuesday, 26 March 2019
Kick-Off at 19:45 UK / 20:45 CET
Venue: Stade Mustapha Tchaker (Blida).

Algeria and Tunisia are set to renew their rivalry in a friendly on Tuesday evening at Stade Mustapha Tchaker in Blida. The hosts will be looking to back up a couple of fine displays in recent African Cup of Nations qualifiers with a result against World Cup contestants Tunisia.

The Desert Foxes won three of last four games and they topped their AFCON Qualification group ahead of Benin, Togo and Gambia. They conceded just two goals in last four outings, a streak which includes a 0-1 victory over Qatar in a NON-FIFA friendly in late-December last year.

The head coach Djamel Belmadi will rely on Manchester City’s star Riyad Mahrez who should feature this friendly in the starting line-up.

Tunisia vs Algeria: Head-to-head

The rivalry between these two likes dates back to 1957 when they faced each other in a friendly back at time when Algeria was French colony.

Dessert Foxes were slightly more successful with a record of 15 wins, 14 draws and 14 defeats against Tunisia.

The Eagles of Carthage, however, came on top when these two sides last battled it out in the group stage of African Cup of Nations (a 2-1 win in January 2017).

Tunisia vs Algeria: Prediction

Tunisia grew in confidence significantly after qualifying for the World Cup in Russia. They even claimed a win here, beating Panama 2-1 after a comeback in the last round of the group stage. The Eagles of Carthage lost only 1-2 to England in the opening fixture and they can certainly be considered a formidable force now in African football.

Tunisia won four and lost one of five AFCON Qualification games conceding just one goal in four games before losing 3-2 to Egypt in November last year. They played very well in friendlies last year with a record of two wins, draws and losses apiece. It is a superb record if we know they’ve faced the likes of Iran, Costa Rica, Portugal, Turkey, Spain and Morocco.

This should be a close encounter between two evenly-matched sides and we see the draw as the most likable of scenarios.
