AS Trencin vs Legia Warsaw:
Champions League Qualifiers.
Date: Wednesday, 27-July-2016
Kick-Off: 19:30 UK
Venue: Stadion Pod Dubnom (Zilina).
Defending Polish Ekstraklasa champions Legia Warsaw travel to Slovakia to face AS Trencin for the first leg of the Champions League qualifying fixture on Wednesday evening.
AS Trencin were crowned Slovakia’s league champions for the second consecutive time last season. It will be interesting to know that this side was in the second division five years ago. They made their first ever appearance in the Champions League qualifiers last season and were eliminated by Steaua Bucharest in the second qualifying round. This season they had passed the first hurdle after defeating Olimpija Ljubljana on away goal rule after the scores were ties at 6-6 on aggregate.
Legia Warsaw defeated Bosnia and Herzegovina outfit HSK Zrinjski Mostar 3-1 on aggregate in the second qualifying round. They are a side that makes it to the qualifiers of the UEFA competitions quite frequently, but haven’t made it to the Champions League group stages since 1995/96. They made it to the last two editions of Europa League tournaments.
Trencin vs Legia Warsaw: Head-to-Head Stats
This is the first ever meeting between AS Trencin and Legia Warsaw.
Legia had previous met a Slovakian side in Slovan Bratislava, during the Preliminary round of 1956 European Champions Cup. They lost the away leg in Bratislava 4-0 and a 2-0 win in the return leg felt short to progress to the next round.
Trencin vs Legia Warsaw: Prediction
In Trencin, we have a pretty new an inexperienced side and Legia are a side that often fail to impress, despite making to the UEFA qualifiers almost every season. And the current form of both teams are nothing to write about, which makes this an extremely difficult match to call.
Legia might have a slight edge due to their experience at this level, but Trencin must not be underestimated. Legia managed just one win from their last 5 away games, scoring just twice. So they might take a defensive approach to take the decider back to their home ground.
While Trencin had lost just once at home from their last 5, with 3 wins and a draw. They are side that play attacking football and often forgets to defense. Also 5 of their last 6 home games have seen over 2.5 goals and I will be backing to the see the same number of goals from Wednesday’s first leg clash.
AS Trencin vs Legia Warsaw: Tips
- Over 2.5 goals.
- Both Teams to Score.
