Tottenham vs Watford
English Premier League
Date: Wednesday, 30 January 2019
Kick-Off at 20:00 UK / 21:00 CET
Venue: Wembley Stadium (London).
Tottenham are going through tough times without their key men in the last couple of weeks. They were knocked out from both cups within just three days and are desperate to bounce back on Wednesday evening when they play host to Watford as Premier League returns to action.
It’s a tough fixture for Spurs to make the rebound after recent failures as they are against seventh-placed side here at Wembley. The Hornets may have not been the most consistent of teams throughout the campaign, but the standings clearly don’t lie and confirm they have quality to stay competitive against injury-crippled Spurs side.
The good news for Mauricio Pochettino is Korea Republic’s surprising quarter-final exit after a defeat to Qatar at AFC Asian Cup. It means Son Heung-Min is back with the team and could likely feature this Watford tie on Wednesday.
The Spurs lost the title race as they are nine point shy of Liverpool at the top, but they need to keep collecting points to stay inside the top four and sec8re another Champions League adventure next year.
Tottenham vs Watford: Head-to-head
Spurs were the more successful side in this H2H comparison over the course of history, but they did struggle against Watford in two games in this season.
The Hornets took a 2-1 victory when teams met each other in the league tie in early-September, while they held Spurs to a 2-2 draw in the third round of the League Cup at Wembley (Tottenham advanced on penalties).
Before the mentioned 2-2 draw, Tottenham won eight on the bounce in front of the home crowd against the Hornets.
Tottenham vs Watford: Prediction
Spurs have a surprisingly poor home record with six wins and four defeats in ten matches so far in the Premier League. They will once again be without Harry Kane and Dele Ali. Watford, on the other side, are unbeaten in past six games in all competitions.
They shipped only one goal in last four ties and they eased past Newcastle United 0-2 in their fourth round of the FA Cup match at St. James’ Park. Andre Gray and Isaac Success scored goals for Javi Gracia’s men on Saturday.
It’s hard to see the value in backing the home win at 1.66 odds here based on everything written above. Watford’s fine defensive displays in recent fixtures make us notice the value in the 2.10 odds offered for fewer than three goals to be scored on the evening at Wembley.
