Tottenham vs Juventus: Preview and Predictions

Tottenham Hotspur vs Juventus
UEFA Champions League – Round of 16 (2nd Leg)
Date: Wednesday, 7th March 2018
Kick-off at 19:45 UK/ 20:45 CET
Venue: Wembley Stadium (London).

Spurs hold the upper hand in the round of 16 clash against a Juventus side after the Italians squandered a 2-goal lead to settle for 2-2 at Turin in the first leg.

A double from Higuain put the Old Lady 2-0 up within 10 minutes from kick-off when these teams met three weeks ago. Several wasted chances and some sloppy defending then helped the North London club to take a draw to the second leg and most importantly 2 away goals.

Both teams are in good shape as Tottenham warmed up for this important fixture with a solid 2-0 win over Huddersfield on the weekend. This result stretched their unbeaten run in all competitions to 17 matches. And at home, the team won 7 on the bounce and conceded just once in the process.

Juventus on the other hand, had a tough match away at Lazio on the weekend. But the Old Lady snatched a 1-0 win which helped them stay at a 1-point gap with the current Serie A leaders Napoli.

Just like their Wednesday’s hosts, it has been a long time since Juventus tasted defeat in competitive games. Their current unbeaten streak stand at 20 games, out of which 17 are wins. Moreover they won their last 10 games and conceded just 1 goal in that time-frame.

Tottenham vs Juventus: Head-to-head

The first leg clash at Turin on 13th February 2018 is the only competitive meeting between Juventus and Tottenham.

Spurs are unbeaten against Italian clubs at home with the 7 matches so far seeing 4 wins and 3 draws.

Juventus have a poor record in English soil after managing just 3 wins from their 21 visits so far, drew 6 and lost 12.

Tottenham vs Juventus: Prediction

This is expected to be a cat and mouse game with a goal-less or 1-1 draw taking Tottenham to the next round. So, Juventus will be the side that have to take the attacking initiative to put the home team on the back foot. Therefore, we are expected to see a quite half before a complete change in tactics in the final half-hour or so. To summarize, I do not see Tottenham losing this potentially low scoring affair.
