Tottenham vs Chelsea
England – Carabao Cup
Date: Tuesday, 29 September 2020
Kick-off at 19:45 UK/ 20:45 CET
Venue: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Both teams had unexpected results in their latest league fixtures, and that definitely has given them a slight reality check.
After all the money splurged in the transfer market, the Blues were held to a draw by the newly promoted West Brom the last match-day. In embarrassing fashion, West Brom slotted in three goals even before half time.
Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho’s men were held to a 1-1 draw by Newcastle at home.
As such, this upcoming match-up could be a serious test. Disappointing results in back-to-back games will set a bad tone for their respective campaigns going forward, and so will an early exit from the Carabao Cup.
For the reasons, a win is a must for both squads this Tuesday. Judging the attacking firepower of both teams and the lapses in defense lately, a goal-fest seems to be the likely outcome.
Tottenham vs Chelsea: Head-to-head (h2h)
- The latest encounter had ended in a 2-1 win for Frank Lampard’s men.
- They are also on a four-fixture winning run.
- However, before that, the Spurs were on a three-game winning run.
- Eight of the preceding twelve clashes had goals from both teams.
Tottenham vs Chelsea: Prediction
Mourinho’s men had received a bye in the previous round, as their opponent Leyton Orient had failed to show up due to some of their players testing positive for Covid-19.
In the meantime, the Blues recorded a 6-0 win at home against Barnsley in the Third Round. New signing Kai Havertz recorded a hat-trick while Tammy Abraham contributed a goal and two assists.
In fact, Lampard’s men have been scoring goals in plenty lately, and they have only added more offensive potential to their arsenal. They had scored three or more goals in three of their former four fixtures, and they had scored two or more goals in the past four h2h encounters.
Meanwhile, the Spurs had won six of their last nine overall matches, and they had lost just once in their preceding fifteen fixtures. And at home, they had won seven of their previous nine appearances.
In addition, they are determined to finish in the top-four of the PL this season, and a strong showing against the Blues will only improve their confidence. They are also optimistic due to the struggles Lampard’s men have had on the road lately.
Taking into account these observations, it seems very likely that both teams will find the back of the net this Tuesday. Moreover, with this being a one-leg tie, and with a Quarter Final ticket on the line, expect a fierce encounter filled with goals.
