Torino vs Napoli 2018-19 Italian Serie A Predictions by LeagueLane

Torino vs Napoli
Italian Serie A.
Date: Sunday 23 September 2018
Kick-Off: 11:30 UK,
Venue: Stadio Olimpico (Turin).

After a disappointing drab stalemate against Red Star Belgrade, Napoli will need to get up and running as they face Torino – and ex-boss Walter Mazzarri.

Although Red Star are back in the Champions League as champions of Serbia, it was not the result the Partenopei had expected. After all, they are in a tough quartet with PSG and Liverpool, so picking up six points against the Serbian outfit was of the utmost importance as they represent the easiest opponents when compared to Liverpool, last season’s runners-up in the Champions League and PSG, serial Ligue 1 title winners.

Domestically, Napoli have also struggled on the road, notably losing 3-0 to Sampdoria and had to come from behind to secure a scrappy win against Lazio. They do come into this game having ground out a 1-0 win over Fiorentina, but it was far from an assured performance from Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

Torino, meanwhile, earned a 1-1 draw with Udinese, and like in their 2-2 stalemate with Inter, they had to come from behind as well. Despite the fact that his team have only won one game so far, Mazzarri will still be pretty satisfied with his side’s progress. Although Andrea Belotti has yet to really get up and running, others have been picking up the slack, namely new signing Soualiho Meite who has netted a couple of goals for the Granata so far.

Torino vs Napoli: Head-to-head statistics

  • Torino’s last win over Napoli was in March 2015
  • Since then the Granata’s record has been D1 L5
  • Napoli have won 5 of their last 6 away matches against Torino in all competitions

Torino vs Napoli: Prediction

Torino are now unbeaten in their last three games after drawing Udinese, and Mazzarri will certainly want to keep that run going. However, despite Napoli’s troubles, one can’t disregard the fact that they have a much more superior squad.

The issue is how Ancelotti is using it, inexplicably dropping players like Dries Mertens and Marek Hamsik at various points already this season.

Finishing is a problem for Napoli, but regardless, they have won five of their last six away meetings with Torino and have not lost to the Granata in over three years. The visitors should be able to get at least a point – or more – from this fixture.
