2017/18 UEFA Champions League Qualifiers
Date: Tuesday, 27th June 2017
Kick off at 19:00 UK/ 20:00 CET
Venue: Park Hall Stadium.
The New Saints are set to open their Champions League adventure this Tuesday when they host the champions of Gibraltar in the first qualifying round.
Even though both teams belong to the very bottom class of European club football, the gulf in quality should still be recognizable and the Welsh champions should not have troubles storming past Europa both on the night and over two legs.
The New Saints
TNS continued their domination by winning their sixth consecutive Premier Division title last year.
However, the team still failed to repeat the success they achieved in previous two seasons when they claimed trebles (The New Saints failed to win the FA Cup last year) which is why the owners decided to make a chance on the bench and hire Scott Huscoe as the new head coach.
Europa, on the other side, ended Lincoln’s reign in Gibraltar by winning their historic first title last year.
Lincoln have previously taken as many as 14 consecutive trophies in the elite class of Gibraltarian football.
This will thus be Europa’s first ever appearance in qualifications for the most elite football competition on the continent.
The New Saints vs Europa: Head to head
The two teams have never previously had the opportunity to face each other.
The New Saints vs Europa: Prediction
Even though it’s hard to judge the teams’ current form, a remarkable gulf in quality should we notable and we just can’t see any problems for the hosts.
The New Saints claimed two easy wins over Tre Penne (Malta’s champions) last year in the first qualifying round and they held APOEL to a goalless draw in front of their fans in the second round.
