Thailand vs UAE
World Cup Qualifiers – Asia
Date: Tuesday, 13th June 2017
Kick-off at 13:00 UK/ 14:00 CET
Venue: Rajamangala Stadium (Bangkok).
Thailand will be playing for pride in the final three matchdays of their World Cup qualification campaign after managing just 1 point from their first 7 matches. Meanwhile, UAE have a mathematical chance to finish inside the top three, but they are 7 points behind Japan, Saudi Arabia and Australia.
The Thais are arguably the weakest team in this phase of the competition and struggled at large to impress against much superior Asian counterparts. Things looked positive at one point when they held Australia for a 2-2 draw at the Rajamangala stadium. But it has been a downward hill since then. They lost 6 or their 7 matches so far, 2 at home and 4 on the road.
UAE showed a lot of promise at the start of the campaign when they defeated Japan away from home on matchday 1. Despite having a quality of players in their ranks, the Emirates team struggled to find consistency in following rounds. They won twice and lost four from the remaining six.
They are in a very difficult position as there is a tussle between Japan, Saudi Arabia and Australia for the top two spots. All the three teams are level on 16 points and UAE are 7 points behind them.
Thailand vs UAE: Head-to-head
The first leg of the tournament at Abu Dhabi was a 3-1 comfortable win for UAE.
The Emirates lead the overall h2h with 4 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss from 6 matches.
Thailand are unbeaten at home against UAE in the last two matches, with a draw in the most recent friendly on 2007, before beating them 3-0 in a qualifying fixture on 2004.
Thailand vs UAE: Prediction
The Thailand coach Milovan Rajevac has to do with an inexperienced squad with a number of regular campaigners missing this game with injuries. Defense is their most deplete area, which increase UAE’s chance of getting a win in Thai soil since 1993.
But expect the home side to play with a big heart as they are already eliminated from the contention for a space in next year’s World Cup in Russia.
