The Euro 2016 hosts France has already qualified for the knock-out stages and they will be looking for another win to finish as Group A winners when they face Switzerland in the final group game on Sunday night at Stade Pierre-Mauroy.
The Les Bleus emerged the first nation to qualify for the next stage of the tournament after they beat Albania 2-0 in their second game, having grabbed all 3 points against Romania in their first game. France fought hard until the end to grab 2 late goals in against Albania. Pogba and Griezmann started on the bench while Martial, who was later substituted, was handed a start. They have now has 2 wins from 2, and 2 clean sheets, they will hope to extend the streak against Switzerland.
Switzerland now have a guaranteed top 3 finish as they already have 4 points in the bag with a win over Albania and a draw against Romania, but a win against the French side will shoot them top of the group and qualify them for the round of 16. The Swiss team have shown good qualities in their two group games, even after conceding an early penalty in their last game, they went on to level things up and grabbed a point from the game. They now hope for a win over the host nation or at least a draw.
Switzerland Team News:
The Swiss football team head-coach Vladimir Petkovic will be forced to drop Haris Seferovic after two dismal displays and the 19 year old youngster Breel Embolo could be handed his first start of the tournament.
There are also some speculations surrounding Xherdan Shaqiri’s place in the team after his recent comments suggesting that he wants to represent Kosovo.
Switzerland: Predicted line-up (4-2-3-1)
Sommer – Rodriguez, Djorou, Schar, Lichtsteiner – Berahmi, Xhaka – Mehmedi, Dzemaili, Shaqiri – Embolo.
France Team News:
Didier Deschamps could revert back to the 4-3-3 formation after the 4-2-3-1 system used against Albania failed to produce any results.
Paul Pogba and Antoine Griezmann are certain to be recalled after being rested against Albania.
There is ample criticism on Oliver Giroud, but he is likely to keep his place in the starting line-up, particularly after a poor showing by Anthony Martial in the previous fixture.
France: Predicted line-up (4-3-3)
Lloris – Evra, Kolscielny, Rami, Sagna – Pogba, Matuidi, Kante – Payet, Giroud, Griezmann.
Switzerland vs France: Head to Head
Switzerland have tasted victory over France just once in their 7 previous meetings, where France have won 3 of the meetings and they shared the spoils 3 time too.
Their first European championship game was in 2014 in Portugal, where France won 3-1 over Switzerland.
Also the last time the two teams met was in 2014 during World Cup in Brazil, France was victorious with 5-2 score line.
Switzerland vs France: Predictions
France looks the brighter team with the huge stars in their side and also considering they have had more convincing wins in their last games than Switzerland and they have also kept clean sheets in the games.
The French supporters will be wishing for a repeat of the 2014 World cup result (5-2) or at least the 2004 Euro championship result (3-1) in this to end the first stage of the tournament with huge confidence.
I predict a 1-0 score line in favour of the French side.
1. France win
2. Half time draw
