Sweden vs Chile
International Friendlies
Date: Saturday, 24 March 2018
Kick-Off at 17:00 UK
Venue: Friends Arena (Solna).
Sweden and Chile will come into Saturday’s friendly in completely opposite moods. The Scandinavians will hit the court for the first time since eliminating the likes of Italy 1-0 on aggregate in the WC playoffs, while Chileans are hoping to make a brand new start after a dreadful campaign they’ve had in the South American WC Qualifiers.
The current Copa America holders are actually going through a very tough period at the moment. The streak of three losses in last four qualifiers has resulted in the sixth-place finish at the end of the campaign. Both Arturo Vidal and Alexis Sanchez are still with the team, but their motivation for this set of friendlies is more than questionable.
This can particularly be states for team’s top scorer in the qualifying campaign- Alexis looks to have huge troubles adjusting to life in Manchester and he has failed to meet Mourinho’s expectations since joining the Red Devils this winter from Arsenal.
The story is completely opposite with Sweden who look extremely well-organized under Janne Andersson. Zlatan Ibrahimovic may not be there anymore, but the team has a true fighting spirit which has led them towards the massive success against Azzurri.
Furthermore, the Scandinavians have been very hard to beat in their own backyard during the qualifying campaign. Sweden have begun qualifications with the 1-1 draw to Netherlands in Solna before winning five on the bounce on the home soil (including impressive victories over the likes of France and Italy).
Sweden vs Chile: Head-to-head
This will only be the second H2H encounter between Sweden and Chile.
Teams drew 1-1 in their previous and lone meeting which has also taken place in Solna 12 years ago (Henrik Larsson scored a goal for the hosts back then).
Sweden vs Chile: Prediction
Looking at the most recent form, one can hardly go past the home win pick at the sky-high odds of 3.10.
Since Sweden have shown rock-solid defense in the qualifying campaign, we will alternatively back them to keep a clean sheet at 3.25.
