English Premier League – Season 2017/18
Date: Sunday, 10th September 2017
Kick-off at 16:00 UK/ 17:00 CET
Venue: Liberty Stadium, Swansea.
The teams opened their first win of the season just before the international break and will be hoping to carry the momentum forward when they clash on Sunday evening.
Swansea finally come good against Crystal Palace on matchday 3 to register their first win of the season. Having drew blank against Southampton on the opening week, Paul Clement’s side were humbled in the 4-0 home defeat against Manchester City.
The Swans were low on confidence when they traveled to Crystal Palace. But they profited from a wasteful hosts and were smart enough to take the rare opportunities and raced to a 2-0 win. None to say the less, creating chances remain a worry for Paul Clement.
Meanwhile, Newcastle started their season on back-to-back losses. They lost to Tottenham and the fellow promoted side without promotion. When there were signs of a mini crisis at the St. James Park, the Magpies produced a brilliant all-round performance to thrash West Ham 3-0.
Scrappy defending and inability to create chances were to blame in the opening two weeks. Looking back at the win against the Hammers, one can be certain that this was only a temporary glitch.
Swansea vs Newcastle: Head-to-head
The most recent meeting the teams was won by Newcastle on a 3-0 margin at the St. James’ Park. Yet, it must be pointed out that the Swans were unbeaten in previous 7 Premier League duels with 5 wins and 2 draws.
Five of the last six meetings between the sides produced 3 or more goals.
At the Liberty Stadium, Swansea won 3 and drew of their last four fixtures. Newcastle managed to score only once here during the period, which was in the 2-2 draw on 2014.
Swansea vs Newcastle: Prediction
As Swansea manager, Paul Clement had lost just two of his last 9 Premier League home games. They were in the relegation zone those days and without much pressure this term, we can expect them to play with freedom.
Meantime, Newcastle’s away record at the Liberty Stadium is nothing to talk about. And it is very likely that they struggle here.
