Sunderland vs Wycombe Wanderers: Prediction

Two goals from Lynden Gooch rapid-fired Sunderland to a delightful 3-1 win over Lincoln City at the Stadium of Light in last Saturday’s League One clash.

A huge win which extended Black Cats’ unbeaten run to five and helped Phil Parkinson’s men overtake a number of clubs to 9th, just one point behind Peterborough who hold the last ticket for promotion play offs.

Stadium of Light has been a fortress this season, as The Black Cats were beaten only once in there when Burton Albion pulled a classic snatch-and-run. But Sunderland often has problems breaking teams down, which resulted in five draws over twelve games.

David Wheeler ended a run of three successive defeats as he earned Wanderers a point against fellow high-flyers Ipswich Town at Adams Park on New Year’s Day.

The Chairboys are huge hit this season, as no one expected them to be this good first time back in League One. Top of the league, three points off runner-up in Rotheram but currently amidst bad patch of games as they can’t buy a win since December 21st.

While The Blues do most of their good work at Adams Park, on their travels Gareth Ainsworth makes them sit super tight and wait for a break in enemy lines which often results in stand off-ish games, with barely any goals scored. They’re having troubles lately though, just one point from last three excursions though they were all versus their rivals from up the table.

All things considered, I think we all can predict that this match will most likely be a repeat of what we already saw of these two last few times they’ve met. With one team shutting up shop while away and another having troubles breaking down sides like that, a boring two hours of football will ensue.

But The Black Cats have got their mojo back recently and just might capitalize on Wycombe’s recent struggles, catch them on the wrong foot and chuck that one goal in that guarantee them three points.
